FSU College Republicans

The College Republicans Club at Florida State University is one of the most active organizations on campus (when the administration doesn't try to get in the way, that is). With a current membership of over 1600 students, we have one of the largest membership totals of any club at FSU.

In the past, we have organized debates between the FSU College Republicans and College Democrats, hosted the College Republican State Convention, and hosted a campus visit by former Vice President Dan Quayle, who is now an Honorary Member of the FSU CRs. More recently, we have worked hard to reelect President George W. Bush, and former Florida governor Jeb Bush. Every year, our club has a strong presence in the state federation, sending many delegates to state conventions so that FSU’s concerns are represented. As in 2001, we hosted a Spring Reception for Florida legislators in the spring of 2006, helping to raise money and awareness of the club. In the fall of 2006, the FSU CRs worked tirelessly to ensure Republican retention of the state’s top offices, leading to the election of Attorney General Charlie Crist as Florida’s next governor. We worked closely with the Republican Party of Florida (RPOF) on a weekly basis, reaching out to voters across the state and in numerous races – including Joe Negron and Vern Buchanan’s congressional races – with telephone calls and precinct walks; and more locally, helping county commission candidates Will Messer, Frank Mayernick, and Brian Desloge in their campaign efforts. Many club members spread the reputation of the club with their work at the Executive Office of the Governor, RPOF, and other institutions.

Among the highlights of the 2005-2006 election season were:
bulletThe election of Charlie Crist as Governor, Brian Desloge to the Leon County Commission, Bill McCollum as Attorney General, and the reelection of Charles Bronson as Agriculture Commissioner
bulletIncreased Republican voter registration on-campus, and collected signatures for the Florida4Marriage Amendment.
bulletSocial events such as the 2006 Spring Reception

We hope to expand club membership this year, coming off the heels of the 2006 General Election in preparation for the momentous 2008 presidential race by raising awareness of conservative issues and by participating in events on campus like Dance Marathon.

Our regular meetings are every Thursday at 8:00pm in Bellamy 116. We will also have many events outside of the meetings, so there's always an opportunity for you to become involved! The best way to be informed is to join our mailing list, our Facebook group, and to check FSUGOP.com on a regular basis.
